JennAir C101 30-Inch Electric Downdraft Cooktop Repair

The C101 is a 30-inch electric drop-in with the self-ventilated downdraft built into the cooktop itself. It usually sits in a standard counter cutout on an island or peninsula, where the vent pulls cooking air down and out through a duct beneath the cabinet.
Units this long in service tend to fail one part at a time. A cartridge element stops glowing, the blower develops a rattle, or the knobs crack and loosen. Heat also takes its toll on the terminal block, where a darkened connection can make an element work only part of the time.
Our first checks are the power at the cooktop, the element and its switch, then the grease trap and blower. Because the cartridge circuit and the vent are separate, we can tell you quickly which side the problem is on. The price is in writing before we start, with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Usually not. The cartridge heats on its own circuit, so we test the element, the switch and the connection to it. If a part fixes it, you get that price in writing before we order anything.
Noise with weak pull points to a blocked grease trap, a stiff blower or a restricted duct. We clean and inspect the path first, then test the motor, and we explain what we found.
It can be, because a loose or burned connection runs hot. If you see discoloration or smell something burning, switch the breaker off. We inspect the block and wiring and replace what is damaged.
