Rangetop Repair in Houston

A rangetop has no oven below it, so burners, valves and igniters are all exposed to spills. If a flame will not light or stay steady, we find the cause and quote the work in writing before we start.

A JennAir rangetop is a pro-style cooking surface that drops into the counter and is usually paired with a wall oven elsewhere. It carries heavy burners, cast grates and large knobs mounted on the front or the side, with a gas valve behind each one.

Spills collect around the base of each burner, and in humid Houston kitchens that residue turns into a crust that blocks the ports and the igniter. Owners also lift the grates often for cleaning, which can leave a cap slightly off center and give a lopsided flame.

We start with the burner caps and ports, then the igniter and the spark module, and finally the valve if the first steps do not solve it.

05Rangetop questions
Is it safe to keep using a rangetop with one burner that will not light?

If you smell gas, turn off the supply and call right away. If the problem is only a burner that stays dark, the other burners are normally safe, but we recommend a visit soon.

Why does my flame go out on the lowest setting?

A low flame is sensitive to wet ports, a dirty orifice or a low-flow adjustment screw. We clean and reset the simmer setting and confirm it holds with the hood on.

Do rangetops need special venting?

Powerful burners produce a lot of heat and moisture, so they work best under a hood that matches the output. We can look at your hood during the visit if you notice lingering smoke.
