What F47 means

On JennAir electric radiant and touch-control cooktops, F47 means there may be a problem with the cooktop power control board, the user interface (touchpad) or the wiring. It covers a wider list of parts than F42 or F56, so the cooktop may refuse to heat, ignore touches or show F47 right after power is applied. The code gives no cleaning step.

Common causes of F47

  • The cooktop power control board
  • The user interface (touchpad)
  • The wiring that links the board and touchpad
  • A power event that damaged one of the boards
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn off all elements and clean the touch area. 2. Make sure nothing is resting on the glass. 3. Switch the breaker off for one minute, then on again. 4. Check whether one element will start on low. 5. If F47 returns, stop using the cooktop and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Three different parts could be behind F47, and the cheapest guess is rarely the right one.
  • Both boards are under the glass beside live power.
  • Cycling power repeatedly will not repair a failed board and may stress it.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F47F47 questions
Why does F47 list so many possible parts?

The code shows that the power board and touchpad stopped agreeing. The cause could be either board or their wiring, so testing is needed to pick the right one.

Is it safe to use the cooktop with F47?

We advise leaving it off. A power control problem can affect how the elements switch, and a visit gives you a clear answer about which part needs work.

Do you test before quoting?

Yes. We test the boards and wiring first, then give you a written price. Completed repairs include our 30-day workmanship warranty, so you know what is covered.
