JennAir JED4430K, Lustre Downdraft Cooktop Repair

From the Oblivion / Lustre family, the JED4430K is a 30-inch electric cooktop with four elements and a built-in downdraft, finished in black with stainless trim. It is also sold as the JED4430KB and JED4430KS. You will often see it in a peninsula or island where the downdraft stands in for an overhead hood.
Four elements share one set of controls, so a problem usually shows up in a single zone first. We check the element, then the switch, and then the wiring between them. On the ventilation side, the filter and the blower wheel pick up grease from every meal cooked on the surface.
We explain what we find before touching anything, quote the price in writing and stand behind the repair with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
The one you use the most, usually the large front zone. Constant heating cycles wear the element and its switch. We test both, so you replace only the part that is actually bad.
A rattle usually means grease on the blower wheel or a loose mount. It is worth having looked at, because a wheel out of balance can wear out the motor bearings sooner.
Wipe it after it cools with a cleaner meant for radiant glass, and avoid dragging heavy pots across it. Scratches and chips near an element are worth showing us before they spread.
