What F4 E1 means

On JennAir combination wall ovens with a microwave, F4 E1 suggests a possible problem with a thermistor, the appliance manager, or the wiring. On the older JMW2430D series, the same code specifically means a microwave cavity temperature sensor error, involving the cavity thermistor or the microwave appliance manager. The microwave section stops and the display shows the code. The microwave cavity may refuse to start any cycle at all.

Common causes of F4 E1

  • Thermistor in the microwave cavity out of range
  • Microwave appliance manager misreading the thermistor
  • Wiring between the thermistor and the manager
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Press Cancel and let the microwave cool for several minutes. 2. Wipe the cavity dry and check the door seal. 3. Turn the oven breaker off, count to sixty, and turn it on so the cavity thermistor check starts fresh. 4. Run a cup-of-water test for twenty seconds. 5. A repeat of F4 E1 means the cavity thermistor needs a visit from us.

! Why to stop there
  • A sensor error can be real heat or a bad reading, and only a technician can tell.
  • Microwave electronics are not meant to be opened by owners.
  • Replacing the manager board before testing the thermistor is the expensive way around.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F4 E1F4 E1 questions
Is F4 E1 about overheating?

It is about the temperature sensing in the microwave section. The cause might be an actual heat issue or a wrong reading, so we test the thermistor and manager.

Do both platforms mean the same thing?

Both point to temperature sensing in the microwave cavity. The older JMW2430D description is more specific about the cavity thermistor. Both describe sensing the heat inside the microwave section, only worded differently.

Do you quote in advance?

Yes. We write down the price before any parts are ordered, and the work is covered by a 30-day workmanship warranty. Estimates list each part before work begins, and nothing is ordered without approval.
