What F8 E5 means

On JennAir built-in wall ovens such as the JJW2830LL, F8 E5 means there may be a problem with the exhaust fan air temperature sensor or its wiring. That sensor measures the temperature of the air the fan pushes out of the oven. The display shows F8 E5, and the oven may stop heating or limit its output. The oven may refuse to heat after a few minutes.

Common causes of F8 E5

  • Exhaust fan air temperature sensor out of range
  • Sensor wiring that is loose or damaged
  • Airflow through the exhaust path that is restricted
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Press Cancel and let the oven cool fully. 2. Check that nothing covers the vent openings. 3. Shut off the circuit breaker for a minute, then reconnect power and see if the exhaust sensor check passes. 4. Restore power and try a short bake. 5. Should F8 E5 return, leave the oven off and tell us it is the exhaust sensor.

! Why to stop there
  • The sensor sits in the exhaust path, where heat and grease build up.
  • A bad reading and a real airflow problem look the same without a test.
  • We need the oven cold to test the sensor safely.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F8 E5F8 E5 questions
What does the exhaust sensor tell the oven?

It reports the temperature of the air leaving the oven. The control uses that reading to confirm cooling is working. It reports how hot the exhaust air is, so the control knows the oven is cooling normally.

Could grease on the vents cause F8 E5?

Heavy buildup around the vents can restrict air, so a gentle cleaning of the outside is reasonable. If the code returns, the sensor or wiring needs testing.

Do you give a price first?

Yes. You get it in writing before any work, and the repair comes with a 30-day workmanship warranty. The visit starts with a sensor test and a written price before any work.
