What F2 means

F2 on JennAir electric radiant and touch-control cooktops tells you the cooktop is too hot. The surface cooking area has reached a temperature the control will not allow to go higher. Remove the pans and wait; F2 disappears once the cooking area has cooled. If you turn the area on early and F2 shows again, the cooktop is still too hot.

Common causes of F2

  • The surface cooking area is still hot from recent use
  • A pan or high setting that has held the area at high temperature too long
  • Poor airflow around the cooktop
  • A temperature sensor that reads too high on a cool surface
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the surface control to OFF. 2. Lift the pans off the cooking area. 3. Wait until the glass has cooled and F2 clears on its own. 4. Restart at a lower heat setting. 5. If F2 appears on a cool cooktop, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Restarting a hot area just triggers F2 again and keeps the glass hot.
  • Moving a hot pan quickly can burn you or crack the glass if it lands on a cold surface.
  • F2 on a cool cooktop is a sensor question that needs a measurement, not guesswork.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F2F2 questions
How long until F2 goes away?

It disappears when the cooking area has cooled. The time depends on how hot it was, but waiting 20 to 30 minutes with the pans removed is a reasonable start.

Why does F2 come back right after I turn it on?

The cooking area is still too hot. The control checks temperature before it will heat further, so turning it on early brings F2 right back. Turn it off and give it more time.

When is F2 a repair problem?

It is a repair problem when it shows on a fully cool cooktop. Then a sensor or control may be reporting incorrectly, and we can check it for a written price.
