On JennAir built-in microwaves, microwave drawers and the microwave section of combination wall ovens, for example the JMC2430LL or JMC8130DDS, DOOR or OPEN/CLOSE DOOR in the display means the door has been closed for five minutes or more without a cycle being started. This prevents unintended starting of the microwave. Open and close the door, then start the cycle. If it keeps appearing, check that the door is fully closed and nothing blocks it.
1. Open the door and close it firmly. 2. Remove packing material and anything resting in the door area. 3. Make sure the drawer or door seats fully against the frame. 4. Start the cycle within a few minutes. 5. If the message appears right after you start, call us.
The door was closed for five minutes with no start, and the microwave blocks starting on purpose to avoid unintended operation. Opening and closing the door clears the message, and you can then start the cycle.
The door switch or latch may not be sensing the closed door. That requires testing with the unit accessible. Do not force the door or slam it; call us and we will check the latch.
The wording is similar, but this explanation is for built-in units and drawers. Hood units sit above a cooktop and have their own page, because the door parts and the repair access differ.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
