Servicing a JennAir Expressions CVG2420 Gas Downdraft Cooktop

The CVG2420 is a 30-inch gas downdraft cooktop from the Expressions line, sold as the CVG2420B and CVG2420W as well. It is not a glass-top model, so there is no ceramic surface to crack, but the burners and the vent are where service calls come from.
Boil-overs are the usual start of a problem. Sugary or starchy spills seep into the burner ports and the igniter, and the flame turns yellow, uneven or refuses to catch. Left alone, a clogged port also makes the igniter click for longer. The downdraft side has its own wear: a blower that slows and a grease path that fills.
Gas rule: if you smell gas, leave and call the gas utility from outside. Otherwise, we clean and test each igniter and port, look at the flame, and then check the blower. The price is in writing before we start, and we cover the work for 30 days.
The B and W endings are finish versions of the same cooktop. Burner parts are usually shared, but trim and knobs can differ. We check the marking on your unit before quoting any part.
A delay often means damp or blocked ports, or a weak spark. We clean the port area and test the igniter. If the spark module is the problem, we show you and quote it in writing.
You can wipe the cap and grate with the cooktop off and cool, but avoid poking the ports with a sharp tool. We clean the ports properly during the visit, and set the flame afterward.
