JennAir JEC3536BS, a Five-Element Radiant Cooktop Repair

The JEC3536BS is a 36-inch electric radiant cooktop with five elements on an easy-to-clean surface. The extra width over a 30-inch unit gives room for a large pan and a fifth element, and it is often set into an island opposite a wall oven or a range hood.
More elements mean more places for a part to wear. We often find that only one of the five has trouble, and the other four cook as normal, which tells us the power supply and cooktop are sound. A single ring that heats slowly or shuts off early generally comes down to the element or its switch.
We start by finding out which element is affected, test power at the cooktop, then work through the element, switch and connection. The price is written before any work starts, and we give a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Since the supply is fine, the issue is local to that element: the element, its switch or its wire. We test each in turn and replace the one that fails.
Cookware should sit on the element it is meant for and not overhang the glass much. An overhanging pot traps heat and can mark the surface. If you cook with large pots often, tell us during the visit.
A light buzz can come from a relay or a loose connection, and a strong one from a failing control. We trace the sound to its source before suggesting a repair, and the price is quoted first.
