JennAir JED3430WS 30-Inch Electric Downdraft Cooktop Repair

JennAir cooktop

Most common issues on this model

  1. A radiant element that stays cold or heats weakly
  2. Element control that no longer holds a setting
  3. Downdraft blower running slowly or making noise
  4. Grease-loaded downdraft filter reducing draw at the surface

The JED3430WS is a 30-inch electric cooktop with four radiant elements and a downdraft that pulls steam and smoke down through the surface, so it is usually found in an island or peninsula where there is no wall behind it for a hood. That placement means the vent duct runs through the cabinet below, and the space around it fills with dust and grease over the years.

When this cooktop gets a call, the elements and their controls account for most of the work. A radiant coil that glows unevenly, or a zone that stops responding, usually points to the element itself or the switch that feeds it. We test each of the four zones with a meter before recommending anything.

Downdraft complaints are a close second. We take out the filter, check the blower for buildup and listen for a bearing that has started to drag. You get a written price before we begin, and our work carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.

JED3430WSJED3430WS questions
Why does my downdraft sound louder than it used to?

Noise from a downdraft usually means grease has built up on the blower wheel or the motor bearing is wearing. We clean the blower housing, check the duct for restrictions and tell you whether the motor needs replacing.

One of the four elements on my JED3430WS never gets hot. Is the whole cooktop done?

Rarely. With four separate radiant elements, a single dead zone normally means that element or its control switch has failed. We meter both, so you replace only the part that actually tested bad.

Can I wash the downdraft filter myself?

Yes, most owners can lift the filter out once the cooktop is off and cool, then soak it in hot soapy water and let it dry fully. If airflow stays weak afterward, the blower or duct is the next thing we inspect.
