JennAir JED4430W Downdraft Cooktop with Touch Controls, Repair

The JED4430W is an electric radiant downdraft cooktop with electronic touch controls, also sold as the JED4430WB and JED4430WS. Models like this are typically set into an island or counter run where the downdraft takes the place of a hood, so it has a duct running beneath it that deserves attention along with the surface.
Electronic controls make diagnosis a two-step process for us. We first confirm that power reaches the cooktop and the board, and then we test the elements one by one. If the panel is sluggish, a worn board or heat damage near the downdraft is often to blame.
We also clear the filter and look at the blower. You get written pricing before we start, and each repair is backed by a 30-day workmanship warranty.
The control board may still be working, since the other zones respond. A single dead zone normally points to that element or its connection, so we test both before replacing a board.
Heat rising through the surface can stress the board and the connections behind the panel. If the response improves once the cooktop cools, the board is a leading suspect and we can test it.
Steam is the reason you have a downdraft, but a clogged filter will reduce how much it removes. Check the filter first, and if airflow is still weak we can look at the blower and ductwork.
