JennAir Flush-Mount Code E:09: Heating circuit interrupted

What E:09 means

On the JennAir flush-mount dishwasher for European-size cabinets, for instance the JDB9600AW, E:09 means the heating circuit is open. The machine keeps washing, but without any heat. The interruption could be in the heating element resistance, its supply wires, or the contacts of the safety relay on the power module. Dishes look clean but are cool and wet at the end.

Common causes of E:09

Heating element resistance out of range or open
Supply wires to the heater loose or broken
Safety relay contacts on the power module not closing

1. Check that the hot water tap feeding the kitchen is working, since a cold supply can make the cycle feel heatless. 2. Flip the breaker off, count to sixty, then flip it back. 3. Run a short program and feel whether the tub gets warm. 4. If it stays cold and E:09 reappears, stop and call us.

Can I keep washing while E:09 shows?

The machine runs without heat, so washing quality drops and drying is poor. It is safe to wait a short time for service, but you may want to hand wash greasy items in the meantime.

Is the heater the part that has failed?

It might be, but E:09 also lists the supply wires and the relay contacts on the power module. We check all three and replace only the one that has actually failed.

Will cold water cause E:09?

A cold supply alone does not create an open heating circuit. E:09 is about the circuit being interrupted, so even with hot water available the code points to the heater path needing a test.
