On JennAir over-the-range microwave hoods like the JMV9196CS and JMV8000 series, E22 reports that the thermal sensor circuit has a short to the control board. The thermal sensor, the appliance control board or the wiring in between may be to blame. Owners see E22, and the microwave may stop heating or refuse heated modes. E21 is the same sensor reported open.
1. Press Stop/Cancel, open the door and let the cavity cool. 2. Check the vent openings for grease. 3. Close the door and run a short test with water. 4. Let the breaker stay off for about a minute, then turn it on. 5. If E22 returns, call us.
The sensor line is connected where it should not be, so the control sees an impossible reading. It is like a thermometer wire touching metal.
Both stop heating, so treat them alike. A short may also point to damaged wire insulation, so we do not suggest running the unit again and again before it is looked at.
If a wire only touched metal for a moment, yes, but it may return. Repeat appearances need a full check of the sensor, the wiring and the board input.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
