What F36 or F37 means

On JennAir induction cooktops such as the JIC4536KS, F36 or F37 means there may be a problem with a temperature sensor on an induction coil. The cooktop cannot read how hot the coil is, so it may limit power or stop heating. On radiant-element cooktops, F36 means something else: a communication problem between the touch control module and the electronic control.

Common causes of F36 or F37

  • A temperature sensor on an induction coil that reads incorrectly or has failed
  • Wiring to that sensor that is loose or damaged
  • A communication problem between the touch control module and electronic control (radiant-element cooktops, F36)
  • A control board that is not reading the sensor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn all zones off and let the glass cool. 2. Make sure no pan or object is resting on the controls. 3. Switch the cooktop's breaker off for one minute, then back on. 4. Try one zone with a suitable induction pan. 5. If F36 or F37 returns, stop and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • A coil sensor sits next to the induction coil under the glass and cannot be reached safely.
  • Heat limiting without a working sensor can let the coil run hotter than intended.
  • Which sensor, wire or board is at issue only shows up on a meter.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F36 or F37F36 or F37 questions
What does F36 mean on an induction cooktop?

It points to a temperature sensor on an induction coil. The cooktop cannot see coil temperature, so it protects itself by limiting or stopping heat.

Is F36 different on a radiant cooktop?

Yes. On radiant-element models, F36 reports a communication problem between the touch control module and the electronic control. The model number decides which one you have.

Can I still cook on the other zones?

The cooktop may let you, but we do not recommend it. A sensor problem can get worse, and a visit with a written price is the safer path.
