What E:14 means

On the JennAir flush-mount dishwasher for European-size cabinets, such as the JDB9600AW, E:14 is a filling problem. The flow sensor sends no pulses even though the heat pump detects water. The program stops and drains. Listed checks are the wiring and the flow sensor, which uses a reed switch. You see the program end early with E:14 on the display.

Common causes of E:14

  • Flow sensor wire loose or broken
  • Flow sensor reed switch failing
  • Water arriving but not being counted by the sensor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Make sure the shutoff tap is fully open. 2. Wait one minute with the circuit off at the breaker, then reconnect. 3. Start a short program and listen for the machine filling. 4. If E:14 shows again, stop and call us. The sensor is inside the water path and not for owners to reach.

! Why to stop there
  • Reed switch testing needs a meter and access to the sensor.
  • The wire may run through areas that carry water.
  • Guessing leads to replacing a valve that is fine.
  • We check wire and sensor, then quote in writing before ordering.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E:14E:14 questions
What is a reed switch?

It is a small magnetic switch that clicks as water turns a part in the flow sensor. Each click is a pulse the control counts. If the switch fails, no pulses arrive.

Is the water supply the problem?

Not here. The heat pump sees water, so water is present. The issue is that the control does not count it, so we look at the sensor and its wires.

Can the machine be used meanwhile?

We would not rely on it. It stops and drains each time. Call us and we will quote the repair in writing, with a 30-day workmanship warranty.
