E03 on JennAir over-the-range microwave hoods, including the JMV9196CS and the JMV8000 series, means the keypad (user interface) reported a problem to the control board. The keypad or its wiring may be the cause. Owners typically see keys that do not register, a display that freezes, or cycles that refuse to start while E03 is on the screen. Both the display and the keys may seem dead.
1. Dry the keypad with a soft cloth. 2. Press Stop/Cancel, wait a minute. 3. Interrupt power at the breaker for sixty seconds. 4. Try one key at a time. 5. If E03 comes back, leave the panel alone and book a visit.
Both blame the keypad on this hood. The wording shows the keypad reported a problem to the board. Testing is the same: we check the pad, its cable and the board input.
If it starts, cooking is usually fine, but unresponsive keys make it hard to control time and power. Stop using it if the display freezes, and let us know what the panel does.
It may clear a one-time glitch, and trying once is safe. If E03 returns, the keypad or its connection needs repair or replacement, and repeated resets only delay that visit.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
