E61 is displayed by JennAir over-the-range microwave hoods such as the JMV9196CS or JMV8000 series when the oven sensor circuit reports an open condition to the control board. The sensor, the appliance control board or the wiring may be the cause. You will see E61 and the microwave may not heat or may stop partway. Treat the unit as unreliable for heated cooking until the sensor circuit is measured.
1. Cancel the cycle and let the oven cool with the door open. 2. Wipe up spills from the cavity once cool. 3. Close the door and try a short cycle with water. 4. Shut the breaker off briefly and then turn it back on. 5. If E61 comes back, call us.
They are similar open-circuit codes. E61 names an oven sensor, while E21 names a thermal sensor. The testing steps are alike, but the part differs.
The control sees no connection through the sensor, as if its wire were disconnected. It then refuses to heat, since it has no temperature reading to rely on.
Not by itself, but heat and spills near a sensor can damage it over time. Clean the cavity when it is cool, and call us if the code stays after the cleaning.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
