On JennAir over-the-range microwave hoods like the JMV9196CS and the JMV8000 series, F4E9 points to a possible problem with the Smart Pop control or its wiring. That control runs the popcorn sensing feature. Owners may see F4E9 along with a popcorn cycle that will not start or that quits. Built-in JennAir microwaves use F4E9 for the inverter instead. Ordinary timed cooking usually continues to work, so only the popcorn feature is lost.
1. Stop the cycle with Stop/Cancel and open the door to cool. 2. Wait one minute, then close the door firmly. 3. Give the microwave a power reset at its breaker. 4. Use manual time for popcorn with the bag and stay nearby. 5. If F4E9 returns, book a check.
Usually it affects the popcorn feature only. Standard timed cooking often continues to work, but if the unit stops entirely, switch it off and call us.
If it starts, watch it, but do not trust it. Bags can scorch when the control does not sense properly. A manual cook with short intervals is safer.
The built-in platform has no Smart Pop control in this role, so F4E9 there points to the microwave inverter. We diagnose by model to be sure which part applies.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
