On JennAir built-in wall ovens such as the JJW2427DS, F2 E4 is shown when there may be a problem with the user interface or keypad, the control, or the associated wiring. The oven reads its settings from this interface. When the signal is wrong, F2 E4 appears and starting a cycle may not be possible. Setting a temperature or timer may be impossible while it shows.
1. Press Cancel and wait ten seconds. 2. Go to the electrical panel, switch the oven circuit off for a minute, and switch it on to retry the interface wiring. 3. Set the clock to see if the keys register. 4. Keep an eye on the display for the code. 5. A repeat of F2 E4 means the interface wiring needs a visit from us.
That points toward the keypad or its connection rather than the whole control. We test the interface before suggesting a board. That tells us the signal path from the touch panel has broken somewhere along its length.
The code concerns the controls, not heat or gas. Still, an oven that cannot be controlled reliably should not be left unattended. Heat and cooking safety are not directly involved, but you cannot trust the oven settings.
