What F5E2 means

JennAir built-in wall ovens such as the JJW2427DS and JJW8530DDS show F5E2 when the control detects a problem with the door latch assembly, the door switch, or the wiring tied to them. The oven checks the door position every time you start a cycle, so the code usually appears when you try to bake, broil or clean. The display shows F5E2 with a tone, and the cycle will not begin until the door reads as properly closed.

Common causes of F5E2

  • Door latch assembly that is not reporting locked or unlocked
  • Door switch that fails to register the closed door
  • Damaged or loose wiring to the latch or switch
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Press Cancel to clear the display. 2. Open the door fully and close it again with a firm push. 3. Look for food debris, foil or a gasket fold that could keep the door from closing all the way. 4. Switch the oven breaker off for a minute, then on again. 5. If F5E2 returns on the next start, leave the oven off and book a visit.

! Why to stop there
  • Latch assemblies are fitted with a motor and switches, so the right part number depends on your exact model.
  • Guessing at the wiring can leave the door lock stuck or the oven heating with the door open.
  • Our technician prices the work in writing first, and the 30-day workmanship warranty covers what we fix.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F5E2F5E2 questions
Is F5E2 caused by a self-clean cycle?

The official meaning only points at the latch, the door switch or the wiring. A clean cycle uses the latch heavily, so the code may show up then, but it does not by itself mean the clean cycle damaged anything.

The door looks closed. Why does the oven say F5E2?

The control does not look at the door, it reads the switch and latch signals. A switch that does not click or a latch that does not report its position will trigger F5E2 even on a door that appears shut.

Can I keep cooking if the code clears after a reset?

A cleared code with no repeat is fine to cook with. If F5E2 comes back within a few uses, the latch or switch is likely weakening, and it is better to have it tested before a self-clean locks you out.
