JennAir Induction Cooktop Zone Shuts Off in the Middle of Cooking

An induction zone that turns off while you cook is often reacting to the pan, a spill or heat. Learn which cases are normal and which are real problems.

Induction cooktops protect themselves and your cookware, so they may stop heating without warning. That can be frustrating mid-recipe, but often the cooktop is doing what it was built to do.

Common Reasons a Zone Stops

  • Pan moved or lifted: the cooktop senses no pan and turns the zone off after a short time.
  • Wrong cookware: a pan that is not magnetic, or has a worn, warped base, may not work reliably.
  • Pan too small: the zone may not detect it at all.
  • Spill or wet controls: liquid on the touch controls can shut things down.
  • Overheating: an empty pan or a long boil can trigger a safety shutoff.

What to Try

  1. Hold a magnet to the base of the pan. A firm grip means it should work.
  2. Center the pan on the marked zone and use one with a flat base.
  3. Wipe the glass and the controls with a dry cloth, since moisture and residue confuse the sensors.
  4. Let the cooktop cool, cut the circuit for a minute, then switch it back on.

Heat and Ventilation

Induction electronics sit under the glass and rely on a cooling fan. Do not put items such as cutting boards or pans on the hot glass, and keep vents clear of towels. If the fan sounds loud, or the cooktop only shuts down after it has been on a while, the cooling may be struggling.

A zone that shuts off with several different pans, or a display that shows a code, is worth a professional look. When basic checks do not settle it, our cooktop repair service is ready for JennAir owners across the region, and the neighborhoods we reach are listed on our service area page. Before any induction repair you can review the price on paper, and our 30-day workmanship warranty covers the labor afterward.
