What F5 E1 means

On JennAir electric, gas and dual-fuel ranges with electronic oven control, such as the JES1750FS or JDS1750ML, F5 E1 points to the main oven door latch assembly, the door switch, or the wiring tied to them. The oven cannot confirm that the door is latched, which matters for self-clean and sometimes for baking. The display shows F5 E1 and the door may not lock or unlock.

Common causes of F5 E1

  • The main oven door latch assembly is not engaging or releasing
  • The door switch is not reporting the door position
  • Wiring to the latch or switch is loose or damaged
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch everything off and wait for the oven to cool. 2. Close the oven door firmly and make sure nothing is caught in the seal. 3. Cut the breaker for a minute and switch it back on. 4. If F5 E1 returns, do not force the door and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Forcing a stuck latch can bend the lock arm and turn a small repair into a bigger one.
  • The latch, the switch and the wiring all give the same warning.
  • We test them in order and quote the repair in writing.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F5 E1F5 E1 questions
Why does the door matter to the oven?

The control wants proof the door is closed and latched, especially for self-clean. If the latch or switch cannot confirm it, the control raises F5 E1.

The door will not open. Is that normal?

The door stays locked when the latch cannot release. Let the oven cool, reset the power, and try again. If it is still stuck, do not force it and call us.

Is F5 E1 the same as F5E1 on pro-style ranges?

They are close cousins. Pro-style RISE and NOIR ranges write it without a space and use a door seating check. This page covers the electronic-control version with a space.
