What Probe or Insert Probe means

On JennAir electric, gas and dual-fuel ranges with electronic oven control, such as the JES1750FS or JGRP430WP, Probe or Insert Probe appears because the control is looking for input from the meat probe and not finding it. Verify the meat probe is fully inserted in its jack, then insert the probe into the center of the thickest part of the food. With bone-in meat, keep the tip away from the bone.

Common causes of Probe or Insert Probe

  • The meat probe is not fully inserted in its jack
  • The probe is not in the food
  • A worn probe plug or jack
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Push the probe plug fully into the jack, using an oven mitt. 2. Insert the probe into the center of the thickest part of the food. 3. Keep the tip away from bone. 4. If the message stays with the probe seated, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Seating a probe takes seconds.
  • Probe cooking works only with good contact.
  • If the jack is worn, we confirm it and quote in writing.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Probe or Insert ProbeProbe or Insert Probe questions
Why does the oven ask for a probe?

You chose a probe-based cycle, so the control looks for the meat probe signal. Without it, the message appears and the cycle will not proceed.

Where should the probe go?

Into the center of the fleshy or thickest part of the food. With bone-in meat, keep the tip away from the bone, since contact can give poor cooking results.

It still says Probe with it plugged in. Why?

The plug may not be seated fully or may be worn. Try again with an oven mitt, and if it persists call us to check the jack.
