On JennAir over-the-range microwave hoods such as the JMV9196CS and the JMV8000 series, F2Q1 means there may be a problem with the user interface, which is the touchpad, or with the wiring leading to it. The control cannot trust what the touchpad is sending. Owners typically see F2Q1 together with keys that do nothing, double entries, or a cycle that will not begin.
1. Wipe the touchpad with a barely damp soft cloth and dry it completely. 2. Press Stop/Cancel, then wait about a minute. 3. Turn the microwave breaker off for sixty seconds and back on. 4. Try one gentle key press at a time. 5. If F2Q1 shows again, stop pressing keys and call us.
Wear is often invisible. Beneath the printed film are contacts that can lose their signal. The control sees the bad signal and reports F2Q1 even when the surface looks perfect.
If a cycle starts, heating normally works. The risk is that keys misread, so the time or power you set may differ from what you intended. Check the display before you walk away.
Both point to the keypad area on the hood. SE is the short message, while F2Q1 is the longer one. We test the touchpad and its wiring either way.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
