On JennAir over-the-range microwave hoods like the JMV9196CS and JMV8000 series, E24 reports that the oven reached an overheat condition of 500F (260C). The guidance names the thermal sensor, the gas sensor, the appliance control board and the wiring. The microwave stops and shows E24, and the unit housing may feel very hot to the touch. Please do not keep restarting it, because the heat condition may be real.
1. Press Stop/Cancel, open the door and keep clear of the hot cavity. 2. If you see smoke or smell burning, turn off the breaker and keep the door shut. 3. Let it cool completely, about an hour. 4. Make sure no food or foil is inside. 5. Do not run it again until we have checked it.
It can be. The unit shut itself off because it believed the cavity hit 500F. Cool it fully, keep the door closed if you see smoke, and do not use it again until a technician has confirmed the reason.
Heavy burning inside can raise temperatures, and leftover residue can mislead sensors. Wipe a clean, cool cavity first. If E24 shows again with nothing inside, the sensors or the board are suspect.
The hood uses a sensor that watches for vapor during cooking. If it sends a wrong signal, the control can misjudge conditions, so we test it along with the thermal sensor and wiring.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
