JennAir Built-In Code F4 E7: microwave meat probe

What F4 E7 means

On JennAir built-in microwaves and combination wall ovens, for example the JMC2430LL or JMC8130DDS, F4 E7 asks you to confirm the microwave meat probe sits firmly in its receptacle. The oven probe cannot be used in the microwave because the two have different resistance values. If the probe is fine, the probe, the receptacle or the wiring may have a problem.

Common causes of F4 E7

Microwave meat probe is not fully inserted
Oven meat probe was used in the microwave by mistake
Probe or receptacle contacts are damaged or dirty
Wiring to the receptacle is loose

1. Press Stop/Cancel and remove the probe. 2. Look at the probe tip and the receptacle for food residue and wipe both gently when cool. 3. Push the correct microwave probe in all the way. 4. Make sure it is the microwave probe and not the oven one. 5. Retry and call us if F4 E7 remains.

Can I use the oven's meat probe in the microwave?

No. The two probes have different resistance values, so the microwave misreads the oven probe and reports F4 E7. Use only the probe made for the microwave.

Why does F4 E7 appear right when I start a probe program?

The control checks the probe signal at the start. If it sees no probe or the wrong value, it stops straight away and shows F4 E7.

Is F4 E7 a serious repair?

Often not. Check the plug seating, residue and probe type first. If a clean, correct probe still fails, the receptacle or wiring needs a technician.
