What F9-1 means

On JennAir electric, gas and dual-fuel ranges with electronic oven control, such as the JES1750FS or JDS1750ML, F9-1 means the oven door latch, the door lock switch, or the associated wiring may have a problem. The dash-style code tells you the control cannot confirm the lock position. Expect the code on the display and trouble locking or unlocking the door.

Common causes of F9-1

  • The oven door latch is sticking or not completing its motion
  • The door lock switch is not reporting the lock position
  • Wiring to the latch or lock switch is loose or damaged
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the oven off and wait for it to cool. 2. Close the door gently and make sure nothing blocks it. 3. Switch the breaker off for one minute and back on. 4. If F9-1 comes back, do not force the door; call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Forcing a locked door can break the latch.
  • Latch, switch and wiring need individual testing.
  • We explain what we find and price the work in writing.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F9-1F9-1 questions
Why does the door lock matter?

Self-clean needs the door locked. If the control cannot confirm the lock position, it shows F9-1 and may block the cycle until the lock circuit is checked.

What is different about F9-1, F9-2 and F9-3?

All three share the same meaning on the label: latch, lock switch and wiring. The last number helps a technician see which check triggered, so give us the full code.

Is it okay to bake?

If the door closes normally and the oven heats, you may be able to bake, but the code means the lock cannot be trusted. Avoid self-clean and call us.
