When a JennAir over-the-range microwave hood, such as the JMV9196CS or a JMV8000 series unit, displays E62, the oven sensor circuit has reported a shorted condition to the control board. The sensor, the appliance control board or the wiring may be the cause. The microwave may stop heating or refuse a new cycle. E61 is the open-circuit version of this sensor code.
1. Stop the cycle and let the unit cool with the door open. 2. Clear grease from the vent openings. 3. Close the door and try a thirty-second cycle with water. 4. A short power reset at the breaker comes next. 5. If E62 appears again, call us.
The official descriptions of both say the oven sensor circuit is shorted, so the behavior looks alike. We separate them by measuring the sensor and wiring.
With a shorted reading, the control cannot know the real temperature. It shuts heating off instead of guessing, which protects the cavity and the cabinets above your cooktop.
Test with a cup of water first. If it heats, use it sparingly. If E62 returns, stop using it and book service so a wrong sensor reading cannot cause an overheat.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
