On JennAir smoothtop and induction ranges such as the JES1750FS and JIS1450DS, C81, C82 and C83 mean the surface cooking area has overheated and the automatic shutoff has switched the cooktop off. If the oven was running, the instruction is to turn it off as well. The display shows the code, the surface elements stop heating, and the range asks you to wait about five minutes for the cooktop to cool before using it again.
1. Turn off the oven and every surface element. 2. Remove pans and let the cooktop sit untouched for at least five minutes. 3. Check that nothing blocks the vents around the range and that no pan is boiled dry. 4. Turn the cooktop back on at low heat and watch whether the code returns. If it comes back right away with a cool surface, stop using the range and call us.
Wait the full five minutes, let the glass cool, and restart on a lower setting. If the code returns on a cool cooktop, stop using the range because the shutoff may be reacting to a bad reading.
The instruction for these codes is to turn the oven off while the surface cools, so plan on pausing both. After the cooldown, try the cooktop first and add the oven once the surface runs normally.
We look at airflow around the range, the surface zones, the temperature sensing and the control that triggers the shutoff. You approve a written price before any part is ordered, and repairs carry a 30-day workmanship warranty.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
