What F01 means

On older JennAir ranges such as the JDR8895AAS and JDS8850AAB that use two-digit F-codes, F01 points to the oven temperature sensor, the oven control, or the wiring that joins them. The control reads the sensor constantly, so when the reading looks wrong the oven can stop heating, and the display shows F01 while the keypad stays alive. Ranges of this generation use a simple sensor probe inside the oven cavity.

Common causes of F01

  • Oven temperature sensor reading out of range
  • Loose or burned connector in the sensor wiring
  • Oven control misreading a healthy sensor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Press Cancel and let the oven cool completely. 2. Turn the range off at the breaker for a minute and turn it back on. 3. Start a bake at 350 degrees and check after a few minutes whether F01 returns. 4. Look inside the oven for a bent or touching sensor probe, without pulling it out. If the code repeats, stop baking and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • The sensor and control give similar readings, so a part swap without testing often fixes nothing.
  • Sensor wiring runs behind the oven where owners should not reach.
  • We measure first, tell you the price in writing, and warranty the work for 30 days.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F01F01 questions
Can I still use the cooktop with F01 showing?

On most older ranges the surface burners work independently of the oven control, so the cooktop usually stays usable. Skip the oven until the code is dealt with.

Why does F01 come and go?

A sensor or connector on its way out can read correctly when cool and drift when hot. Intermittent codes are common here and usually return, so a test visit is the reliable answer. Most of the time the oven side is what is affected.

Do I need a new sensor every time?

No. The official meaning lists the sensor, the control and the wiring. We check all three, and sometimes only a connector needs attention. Your model number helps us bring the right probe.
