JennAir Range Convection Fan Rattling, Squealing or Not Running

A convection fan that rattles, squeals or stays silent can change how your JennAir range cooks. Here is what to listen for and what to check first.

The convection fan sits behind the back wall of the oven and circulates hot air so food cooks evenly. When it makes new noises or stops turning, you may notice longer cook times or uneven browning before you hear anything at all.

What the Sounds Usually Mean

  • Rattling: a loose fan blade, a loose back panel, or a rack or pan vibrating against the wall.
  • Squealing or grinding: a worn motor bearing or a blade rubbing on something.
  • Humming without movement: a motor that is trying to start but cannot spin freely.
  • Silence in convection mode: a motor, wiring or control problem, or a mode that was not selected.

Checks You Can Make Safely

  1. Make sure the oven is cool, then remove all racks and pans and run convection again. Many rattles come from loose cookware.
  2. Confirm you actually chose a convection mode and not regular bake.
  3. Listen with the door closed, then open it slightly. Some ranges pause the fan when the door opens, which is normal.
  4. Note when the noise happens: at startup, only at high temperatures, or all the time.

What Not to Do

Please do not remove the back panel of a hot or plugged-in oven to reach the fan. The area holds sharp edges, insulation and live wiring. A fan that runs hot or drags can also overheat the motor, which makes a small repair larger.

Details help us a lot, so write down what you hear and when it happens before the visit.

We can usually tell from the sound and a short test whether the fan, the motor or a loose part is the problem. When basic checks do not settle it, our range repair service is ready for JennAir owners across the region, and the neighborhoods we reach are listed on our service area page. The written quote for the fan work comes before the tools do, and our 30-day workmanship warranty follows the repair.
